Texas Tech Confirms Heartbreaking News

setback for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, starting quarterback  will miss the upcoming Liberty Bowl due to elective shoulder surgery. The junior quarterback underwent the procedure to address a joint sprain in his right shoulder, an injury he has managed for most of the past two seasons.

Morton initially sustained the shoulder sprain during the fourth game of the 2023 season but demonstrated resilience by not missing any regular-season games this year. Despite the injury, he led the Red Raiders to an 8-4 record, ranking third in the Big 12 and tenth nationally with 3,335 passing yards. He also recorded 27 touchdown passes, underscoring his pivotal role in Texas Tech’s high-octane offense, which leads the Big 12 with an average of 38.6 points and 459.8 total yards per game.

 

 

 

The decision to undergo surgery was made after consulting with leading NFL medical experts. Morton expressed that the timing allows him to fully rehabilitate during the spring and be prepared for summer workouts. He emphasized that the injury did not impact his performance this past season but opted for the procedure to ensure his long-term success.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In Morton’s absence, true freshman Will Hammond is set to make his first career start in the Liberty Bowl against Arkansas on December 27. Hammond, a highly touted recruit, will have the opportunity to showcase his talent on a significant stage.
