Minnesota Vikings cut ties with 29-year-old gifted player with wealth of experience

The Vikings have officially released center  after six seasons, the team announced on Monday.

News broke last Thursday that the Vikings would release Bradbury if they couldn’t find a trade partner for the 2019 first-round pick. Given the lack of leverage from such news, it’s not surprising they couldn’t strike a deal to get a draft pick. However, it is somewhat curious that the Vikings were able to trade Ed Ingram for a pick but had to release a more established player like Bradbury.

Importantly, this move is being treated as a post-June 1 release, according to NFL Network. This means it will save the Vikings $5.25 million in cap space, while creating $814K in dead money, which will be spread across the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Bradbury’s cap hit will remain on the Vikings’ books until June 2, so the additional cap space won’t be available until then.

The Vikings’ previous front office selected Bradbury with the 18th overall pick in the 2019 draft out of North Carolina State. Over the past six seasons, he started in all 92 games he played. While Bradbury excelled at run blocking and communication as a center, his struggles in pass protection led the Vikings to look for an upgrade this offseason. To address this, they signed nine-year Colts starter Ryan Kelly to a two-year deal last week.
