Washington Commanders land massive deal for 26-year-old offensive lineman

The Washington Commanders are making an addition their offensive line, according to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler.

“The Commanders are signing offensive lineman  to a one-year deal, per source,” Fowler tweeted. “Six-year veteran adds to Washington’s mix at guard. Herbig was hurt last season but is healthy now.”

The Commanders didn’t have an urgent need to improve their interior offensive line, but Herbig adds valuable experience to their front line.

Herbig, 26, went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft after playing at Stanford. However, he managed to secure a spot with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent his first three seasons in the league.

In 2022, Herbig played for the New York Jets before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2023-24 seasons. After suffering a torn rotator cuff last summer, he was placed on injured reserve and missed the entire season.

Now fully recovered, Herbig is aiming to secure a spot on the Commanders’ 53-man roster in 2025.
