San Francisco faced a challenging 2024 season, and now their roster is becoming more costly. Quarterback Brock Purdy is set to sign a significant contract, making it unlikely that the 49ers will be able to maintain their current roster.
The 49ers have already lost several key players since the start of free agency and have also parted ways with some others. On Wednesday, they released two-time, and it didn’t take long for him to find a new team. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, He quickly signed a two-year, $30 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

“Shortly after being released by the 49ers, DT Javon Hargrave reached agreement with the Minnesota Vikings on a two-year, $30 million deal that includes $19M guaranteed,” Schefter said. “Deal negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus.”
Hargrave spent the past two seasons with the 49ers, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2023 after playing in 16 games. During that season, he recorded seven sacks, 14 quarterback hits, and 44 total tackles. However, in 2024, he only played in three games. Despite this, the Vikings are clearly optimistic about his potential moving forward.
It was great having Hargrave in San Francisco for the last two years. Hopefully, he can return to form as a member of the Vikings in 2025.
