Pirates Star Ke’Bryan Hayes Already Battling Injury
Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes is dealing with another injury setback before Spring Training even concludes.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette*, Manager Derek Shelton revealed Monday that Hayes is experiencing “left side tightness.” The 27-year-old hasn’t played since March 5.

Despite the concern, there are signs this may not be a major issue. Shelton noted that Hayes fielded grounders yesterday and is expected to take swings today. However, given his history of injuries, the Pirates are likely to proceed with caution—especially since this problem has surfaced so early.
Just last month, Hayes expressed confidence in his health, saying he felt the best he had in a long time thanks to improved methods for managing his chronic back problems. While it’s unclear if this latest issue is related to his ongoing back troubles, it wouldn’t come as a shock. Fans will have to wait and see if this is just a minor hiccup or an early warning sign for the season ahead.
