UNC Shocks the Football World: Bill Belichick Wasn’t Their First Choice
The North Carolina football program made one of the biggest coaching moves of the offseason by hiring eight-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick after parting ways with Mack Brown. Despite Brown being let go partly to bring in a
younger coach—he’s 73 while Belichick is 72—UNC initially had a different plan. According to a report from ESPN’s David Hale, Andrea Adelson, and Chris Low, athletic director Bubba Cunningham’s first choice was actually Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.
