NFL free agency is quickly approaching, and the Los Angeles Rams have already started making major changes to their roster, with one of the biggest moves being the extension of Matthew Stafford for another two years. Pro Football Focus, renowned for its detailed player analysis and evaluations, has highlighted the “perfect” free agent for each team to target in the upcoming weeks. With most of their offense settled, aside from the ongoing situation with Cooper Kupp, the Rams are expected to focus on improving their defense in free agency. Former New England Patriots cornerback would be an excellent addition to the Rams’ roster. At 31, Jones is still a highly effective Cover 3 cornerback, ranking 14th among qualified players according to PFF. His skills align well with the Rams’ defensive scheme under coordinator Chris Shula, making him a strong candidate to bolster their secondary.

Although Jonathan Jones hasn’t recorded an interception in the last two seasons, his consistent coverage skills and experience still make him a valuable asset to any defense. A fresh start with the defense-minded Rams could be a great opportunity for Jones, and he would pair well alongside Darius Williams. Together, Williams and Jones would form a strong duo in the secondary, with Jones’s coverage expertise complementing Williams’s playmaking abilities. This partnership could provide stability in coverage and offer leadership for the younger players joining the rotation. As the legal tampering period begins on Monday and free agency officially starts on Wednesday, the Rams will look to strengthen their roster and address crucial defensive needs.
