
USD Coyotes Receive Shocking News: Head Coach Bob Nielson Relieved of Duties
the University of South Dakota has announced that Head Coach Bob Nielson has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately.

The news sent shockwaves through the USD community, as Nielson had been at the helm of the Coyotes football program for nine seasons, leading the team to four FCS Playoff appearances, including a semifinal appearance in 2024.
“We appreciate Coach Nielson’s contributions to our football program and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” said USD Athletic Director, David Herbster. “However, we feel that it’s time for a change in leadership to take our program to the next level.”
Nielson’s departure comes as a surprise to many, given his success on the field and his commitment to the USD community. However, the university has stated that they will begin a national search for a new head coach immediately.
