GOOD NEWS: New York Rangers Top-notch superstar reportedly refuses trade to Canadian team

The top superstar seems likely to be leaving the New York Rangers, with his no-trade clause revealing that he has no interest in moving to Canada. His list of eight teams that he won’t accept a trade to clearly indicates his preference for his future destination.

The Rangers have already made significant trades this season, and with the trade deadline approaching, it looks like veteran forward Reilly Smith might also be on the move. Smith, a former Stanley Cup Champion, has played for Dallas, Boston, Florida, Vegas, Pittsburgh, and New York since entering the league in 2011. Though he’s had solid performances wherever he’s been, he’s often been a key player traded around deadline time.

Rangers Cup champion refuses trade to Canadian team

On Sunday, Smith was kept out of the Rangers’ game against the Nashville Predators, sparking speculation that a trade is imminent.

Elliotte Friedman has now revealed that Smith’s no-trade clause includes seven Canadian teams, suggesting that he’s not interested in playing north of the border. While it’s uncertain which U.S. team is on his list, the Rangers still have 22 teams they can trade him to. With 10 goals and 29 points in 58 games this season, Smith remains a solid contributor at the NHL level.

Smith carries a $5 million cap hit this year, which could be retained by the Rangers or a third party. Since his contract expires after this season, he’s an attractive low-cost rental option for a Stanley Cup contender. Although Canada is off the table, many contenders could still benefit from his services moving forward.
