MARK POPE ANNOUNCES DEPARTURE IN SHOCKING MOVE

 

basketball coach, Mark Pope, announced his departure from the program in a surprise move on Wednesday afternoon.

 

According to sources close to the program, Pope informed his players and staff of his decision to leave the team, citing personal reasons.

 

“We are grateful for Coach Pope’s contributions to our program over the past four years,” said BYU Athletic Director, Tom Holmoe. “We wish him and his family all the best in their future endeavors.”

 

Pope, who took over as head coach in 2019, led the Cougars to a 69-43 overall record, including a 24-8 mark in the 2020-21 season. He also guided the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances.

 

The search for Pope’s replacement is expected to begin immediately, with several top candidates already emerging.
