Pittsburgh Steelers surprise trade land blockbuster deal for Rams star Matthew Stafford

Rams fans may prefer to steer clear of this topic until a decision is reached, but it now looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers have a chance to trade for Matthew Stafford.

On Monday morning, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported that the Steelers are among the teams expressing interest in Stafford. The Rams recently allowed Stafford’s agent to talk with other teams to assess his potential market and annual value, and several teams, including Pittsburgh, are showing interest.

So, we know the Steelers are interested.

But, what would it take for Pittsburgh to land the veteran quarterback?

The Steelers could simply give the Rams exactly what they’d want in a Matthew Stafford trade

This isn’t much of a step up from the first idea, but Los Angeles does move up seven spots in the third round.

Now, on to a more interesting plot twist.

Could the Steelers include George Pickens in a Matthew Stafford trade?

A lot of Steelers fans would be open to the idea of parting ways with George Pickens, as long as there’s a clear plan to strengthen the wide receiver position for the future. This could be a clever way to make that happen.

I’m no salary cap expert either, but with the increased cap space for next season and the Steelers having $60 million available, they should be able to afford both Stafford and Kupp by restructuring some contracts into bonuses.

This would not only give the Steelers their quarterback but also bring his top receiver to Pittsburgh. The connection and chemistry are already there, so there’s no need to start from scratch.

Would the Rams want more for both players? It’s hard to say. But for the Steelers, this move is all about winning now, while the Rams would be focused on their future.
