Massive: Buffalo Sabres receive game-changing news that has fans buzzing

Buffalo Sabres  winger  is set to return to the lineup after missing the last 23 games due to a mid-body injury, as confirmed by head coach Lindy Ruff, according to Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News.

The talented player has been out since mid-December, has played only 20 games this season. His most recent stint lasted just four games after a 10-game absence in early December due to the same injury. So far this season, Greenway has scored three goals and provided four assists, totaling seven points, with 13 penalty minutes and a minus-one rating.

In his third season with the Sabres, Greenway finished the 2023-24 season with 28 points, including 10 goals and 18 assists in 67 games.

Drafted 50th overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2015 NHL Draft, Greenway has played 421 career games between the Wild and the Sabres, accumulating 55 goals, 103 assists, and 158 points. In the 2021-22 season with the Wild, the 28-year-old from Canton, N.Y., set a career-high with 32 points, including six goals and 26 assists in 56 games. Greenway has also scored three goals and four assists in 22 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

According to PuckPedia, Greenway is in the final year of his three-year contract, which has an annual average value of $3 million, and will become an unrestricted free agent in the upcoming offseason. The Sabres acquired Greenway from the Wild in March 2023 in exchange for second- and fifth-round draft picks.

Greenway returns to a Sabres team currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 22-27-5 record, 12 points behind the second wildcard spot. The Sabres have not made the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2011. After the 4 Nations Face-Off concludes, the Sabres will be back in action on Saturday against the New York Rangers.
