A former walk-on player has earned a scholarship with the South Carolina football team. Senior Colin Bryant, who has contributed on special teams and at linebacker, was awarded a scholarship by the Gamecocks. South Carolina shared a video on social media Wednesday showing Bryant receiving the news.
In the clip, USC receiver Mazeo Bennett informed Bryant about the scholarship during a meeting, following an exercise focused on learning about teammates.
After hearing the news, Bryant was surrounded by teammates. “Thank you so much, coach,” Bryant said as he hugged USC head coach Shane Beamer.
A native of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Bryant previously played at Wando High School. He initially walked on at Alabama before transferring to South Carolina in 2022. Over the course of 21 games for the Gamecocks, including all 13 games last season, Bryant has been a key player on special teams and famously recovered an onside kick against Alabama, his former team.
