Joe Burrow was one of the standout performers in the 2024 NFL season, but he admits there is one thing he cannot do like Lamar Jackson
Joe Burrow has acknowledged that he needs to work on his sliding technique to gain more yards on plays, similar to how his division rival Lamar Jackson excels at it. Although Burrow led the league in passing yards and touchdowns this season, he and the Cincinnati Bengals fell short of making the playoffs, finishing with a 9-8 record.
Speaking on the Pardon My Take podcast, Burrow said: “I’m getting better at sliding and protecting myself, and I’m getting more agile, so I’m making some more people miss. I’m getting a little faster and I’m going to continue to work on that, so I’m going to feel better and better about it.”
Burrow also recognized that Jackson, his division rival, is the best at mastering the QB slide, and admitted that he could learn a lot from the Baltimore Ravens quarterback.

Burrow has openly admired Jackson’s evasive techniques and admits he hasn’t quite mastered them. The 28-year-old said: “Yeah I know, I haven’t quite perfected it. Like Lamar [Jackson] will do some weird stuff and then get down without getting hit. I’m not, I don’t have that in me, I don’t think, so I’m just going to do the baseball slide.”
Reflecting on his own sliding style, he added: “I’d like to not go as far [with my slide] but I feel like my slide into knee into the ground, pop up, it’s good.”
During a discussion about the finesse in Jackson’s slides, podcast host Dan Katz noted that defenders tend to steer clear because the Ravens star is known for “diving at people’s knees.”
Burrow elaborated on this tactic, as he said: “When he gets close to people, everybody just breaks down because they’re so worried about him making a miss, right?
“So he just starts going like that, and then everybody stops, and then he just goes down. Yeah, I don’t get anybody to stop like that.”
As fierce competitors in the AFC North, Jackson and Burrow are set to clash once more in 2025, both with ambitions of playoff glory and securing the elusive Super Bowl LX title. Though Burrow has experienced the grand stage – with a 23-20 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI – both quarterbacks are still pursuing their first Lombardi trophy.
