JUST IN: WVU receives ground-breaking news involving familiar face

On Monday, it was officially announced that former West Virginia running back Quincy Wilson has been appointed as the new head coach at Weir High School in Weirton, West Virginia, his alma mater.

Wilson was actually set to become the first head coach at Rio Grande, a NAIA school in Ohio, but the school parted ways with him just five months after his hire. Reasons for the split were not disclosed in the official press release, stating, “To respect the privacy of all parties involved, Rio will not be providing details on the separation.”

Since entering the coaching field in 2017, Wilson has spent much of his career in the Mountain State. He served as the running backs coach at Glenville State in 2017, then became the associate head coach and running backs coach at West Virginia State from 2018 to 2021. Most recently, he was the running backs coach at Fairmont State in 2023.

In 2022, Wilson took on the role of head coach at the University of Fort Lauderdale. However, due to the program being new and facing a lack of players and numerous injuries, he only coached one game before the team had to cancel more games.

During his time as a player in Morgantown, Wilson rushed for 2,608 yards and 20 touchdowns on 474 carries. One of his most memorable moments came during a game against No. 2 Miami, when he caught a pass on 3rd and 13, broke multiple tackles, and raced down the sideline for a touchdown, famously powering through defensive back Brandon Merriweather along the way.
