MASSIVE LOSS: Canucks Roster Hit With Another Major Setback

Vancouver Canucks Veteran has made the tough call to sit out the 4 Nations Face-off due to an oblique injury. His absence is a significant setback for Team USA, where he was expected to be the top defenseman, likely paired with either Adam Fox of the New York Rangers or Charlie McAvoy of the Boston Bruins.

This is also a disappointment for the Hughes family, as it would have been the first time Quinn and his brother, Jack Hughes, played together at the international level. Speaking to the media after Monday’s practice, Jack shared his thoughts on Quinn missing the tournament. When asked about the exchange between the two brothers, Jack said, “Probably just like, ‘Damn, sorry, man,’” recalling Quinn’s brief text message. He added, “We’re both going to play a long time. At some point, we’ll play—maybe the third year. Hopefully, the Olympics next year will be our chance.”

Quinn has been out of the Canucks lineup since January 31, following a game against the Dallas Stars where he briefly left due to injury but returned later. He attempted to play in the next game, even participating in the pre-game skate against the Detroit Red Wings, but ultimately did not play and has since missed three games. He’s been prioritizing his recovery for the Canucks’ season and their push for the playoffs.

Despite the disappointment of missing the chance to play with Quinn, Jack understands the reality of injuries. Both brothers remain optimistic about future opportunities, including potentially teaming up at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Canucks fans may miss seeing Quinn compete internationally, but he’ll be resting and preparing for the crucial stretch of the regular season.
