Confirmed: Cincinnati Reds land fruition deal for another top decorated player to bolster much needed depth

The Cincinnati Reds continued to bolster depth  by signing talented player to a deal for 2025. He spent the 2024 season with the Reds, appearing in five games before the All-Star break, where he went 1-for-9 with a walk. The remainder of the season was spent with Triple-A Louisville. The 30-year-old was the top hitter in the Reds’ farm system, playing 99 games for the Bats and posting a .286/.385/.547 slash line. His 28 doubles, 22 home runs, .286 batting average, and .385 on-base percentage ranked second in the system, while his .547 slugging percentage and .932 OPS led the way. He also topped the International League in OPS and ranked second in home runs.

Edwin Ríos to injured list with right shoulder injury

The 2024 season marked Rios’ sixth consecutive year in the major leagues, as he played for the Dodgers in 2020 and contributed to their World Series title. While Rios primarily played first and third base with the Reds in 2024, he has also seen time in the corner outfield spots during his time with the Dodgers in the minors. Rios will turn 31 in April, so this signing likely serves as a depth move, similar to last year when he was brought in. Teams need versatile players like Rios, who has filled that role for multiple organizations.

At the time of the article’s release, there was no indication that Rios had been invited to major league spring training. His signing appeared on the transaction wire as a minor league deal, though such deals sometimes later include an invite to big league camp.
