Pete Alonso, a four-time National League All-Star, remains one of the top free agents in MLB. After spending his entire six-year career with the New York Mets, he comes off a season where he played all 162 games, hitting 34 home runs and driving in 88 RBIs. While his 2024 numbers were slightly lower than his previous two seasons, where he hit 40 homers and led the league with 131 RBIs in 2022, and 46 home runs with 118 RBIs in 2023, Alonso still boasts a career .854 OPS. At 30 years old, he remains a powerful hitter who can provide a boost to any team needing a first baseman or designated hitter.
As MLB free agents sign with teams and Spring Training approaches, Pete Alonso’s pool of potential suitors has shrunk. Multiple reports suggest that the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets are the only teams still in the running for the two-time Home Run Derby champion. A recent update has shed more light on the situation.
Per MLB insider Hector Gomez, Toronto has offered Alonso a three-year contract. “SOURCE: The #BlueJays have offers out to both Pete Alonso (3 years) and Alex Bregman (6 years). The jays are in play to land either of them,” Gomez reported on X.
Pete Alonso is said to have rejected a three-year, $70 million offer from the New York Mets, according to SNY’s Andy Martino. The same report suggests that while Toronto’s three-year offer to Alonso is unlikely to surpass that figure, the Blue Jays have decided to extend a similar deal. Toronto has been busy this offseason, most recently reaching an agreement with three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
