The 2025 Virginia Cavaliers football team improved last night when Tony Elliott secured a commitment from Notre Dame wide receiver through the transfer portal, just before the enrollment deadline for the 2025 spring semester.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, will join the Virginia Cavaliers after spending three seasons at Notre Dame under head coach Marcus Freeman and contributing to the 2024 national runner-up team.
During his time with the Fighting Irish, He recorded 64 receptions for 838 yards and scored seven touchdowns. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 218 pounds, he adds size and athleticism to Virginia’s wide receiver group. With his physicality and skill set, Thomas aims to make an immediate impact for wide receivers coach Adam Mims, offensive coordinator Des Kitchings, and the Cavalier offense.
While Virginia lost standout wide receiver Malachi Fields to Notre Dame earlier in the transfer portal, they’ve since strengthened their receiving corps. Thomas will join former Purdue receiver Jahmal Edrine and ex-James Madison standout Cam Ross to help fill the void left by Fields.
Thomas is known for his ability to track the ball and win one-on-one matchups. His deceptive speed, along with his knack for breaking tackles and making plays in the air, will be a valuable asset for the Cavaliers.
This is another strong addition for Virginia as they approach the 2025-2026 season. The Cavaliers have now brought in 17 total transfers, including seven from Power 5 conferences and two players from the 2024-2025 National Championship game. Elliott and his staff have not only filled every positional need but have also brought in serious talent where it was most needed, strengthening the team across the board.
