Heart-breaking: 27-year-old super talent part ways with Toronto Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays confirm the departure of 27-year old talented player.

He was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on January 20 to make room for new free agent . Just one day before, he had turned 27. The lefty was drafted by Toronto in the 18th round of the 2019 draft but flew under the radar as he progressed through their system. Despite a delayed start due to COVID, he reached Triple-A in just his second professional season in 2022. He spent the entire 2022 and 2023 seasons at Triple-A.

 

Rays add lefty relief depth, acquire Brandon Eisert from Blue Jays

In June of last year, the Blue Jays gave Eisert a shot in the majors. He debuted on June 17 against the Boston Red Sox, pitching two scoreless innings. Over three appearances with Toronto—one in June and two in September—he allowed three runs on five hits, walking four and striking out two in 6 2⁄3 innings. While in Triple-A, Eisert posted a 3.86 ERA and 4.09 FIP, with a 29.1% strikeout rate and 9.3% walk rate over 53 2⁄3 innings.

Eisert now joins the Rays’ bullpen, where he’ll take a spot on the 40-man roster and retain options.
