Oregon State quarterback  is leaving the Northwest to transfer to Texas State. The 6-foot senior, who spent three years at Idaho before playing the 2024 season at Oregon State, announced on Monday that he will continue his career at the FBS level with the Bobcats.

Texas State, which finished the season with an 8-5 record and won the First Responder Bowl on January 3, plays in the Sun Belt Conference, where they were 4-3 in 2024. The Bobcats were in need of a quarterback after senior starter Jordan McCloud completed his eligibility.

McCoy started nine games for Oregon State in 2024, including the first eight of the season. He passed for 1,300 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 325 yards and five scores. McCoy began the season strong, helping OSU win three of its first four games. However, he suffered a shoulder injury against Colorado State and struggled in the following games. McCoy was eventually benched during the second quarter of the October 26 game against California and started only the first half against Air Force on November 16.

McCoy is the third quarterback to leave Oregon State since the season ended. Along with McCoy, walk-on Dom Montiel entered the transfer portal, and Ben Gulbranson decided not to return after five years with the program.
