Rutgers football has strengthened its secondary with the addition of Cam Miller, a cornerback transferring from Penn State. The program announced the signing on Wednesday, marking another key move for their revamped defense ahead of the 2025 season.
Miller, a 6-foot, 183-pound cornerback from Fernandina Beach, Florida, entered the transfer portal earlier this week. He has one year of eligibility left. This past season, he recorded 27 tackles and five pass breakups in 16 games, including four starts.
During his three seasons at Penn State, Miller tallied 56 tackles (8 for loss), four sacks, one interception, and nine pass deflections.
Miller is expected to play a starting role for Rutgers, which is coming off a 7-6 season following a loss to Kansas State in the ReliaQuest Bowl. Interestingly, Rutgers had recruited Miller out of high school, when he was a four-star prospect from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, but he chose Penn State as part of their 2022 recruiting class.
His arrival helps address the departures of cornerbacks Robert Longerbeam and Eric Rogers, bolstering the Scarlet Knights’ depth. With Miller in the fold, Rutgers now has a solid four-man rotation in the secondary alongside returners Bo Mascoe, Al-Shadee Salaam, and Marshall transfer Jacobie Henderson.
The new defensive coordinator will have flexibility in how to utilize these players, bringing added speed to the unit. In addition to Miller, Rutgers has strengthened its defense with several other transfers, including Ohio defensive end Bradley Weaver, James Madison defensive end Eric O’Neill, South Florida defensive tackle Doug Blue-Eli, JMU defensive tackle Darold DeNgohe, and UNLV safety Jett Elad.
