Jedd Fisch’s coaching staff at the University of Washington didn’t waste any time moving on from former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Johntay Cook, who was dismissed earlier in the week, and began looking for another experienced pass-catcher.
On Wednesday evening, Omari Evans, a Penn State wide receiver, revealed to On3 that he will visit Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas Tech, and Washington.
Evans, whose full name is Donovan but goes by his middle name, is a 6-foot, 189-pound senior who played in 38 games for the Nittany Lions but started only six, likely contributing to his decision to enter the transfer portal.
In November, Evans came off the bench during Penn State’s 35-6 win over the Huskies in State College but did not record any catches in that game.
Like Cook, Evans is also from Texas, though he is from Killeen, about 140 miles south of Cook’s hometown of DeSoto, which is near Dallas.
Evans had a notable 38-yard touchdown reception against Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl and College Football Playoff, helping Penn State take a 13-0 lead in a 31-14 victory on New Year’s Eve. This came shortly after the Huskies played in the Sun Bowl against Louisville.
Evans ended the season with 21 catches for 415 yards and five touchdowns, bringing his career totals to 30 receptions for 564 yards and seven touchdowns.
Throughout the season, Evans was used intermittently in the Penn State lineup, starting in the second game against Bowling Green, then again in the fifth game against UCLA, and later starting four consecutive games against Purdue, Minnesota, Maryland, and Oregon.
He played as a reserve in Penn State’s three playoff games against SMU, Boise State, and Notre Dame. Clearly, Evans is now seeking a more significant role at his next destination.
