SAD NEWS: Washington huskies confirm Another Departure of a Top-notch player

The troubled journey of former Texas Longhorns wide receiver  took another unexpected turn on Tuesday, with reports emerging from Seattle that the DeSoto native left the Washington Huskies program after only about two days on campus.

A source confirmed to @On3sports that Cook and Washington have parted ways, with the Texas transfer staying for approximately 48 hours before the decision was made.

While Cook’s next move remains unclear, the Huskies will now turn to the transfer portal to strengthen their wide receiver position.

Johntay Cook II, former Texas WR, abruptly leaves Washington

Cook had committed to Washington on December 31 and signed with the team on January 7. This marks his second departure from a program in the last two months, following a “mutual” decision to leave Texas in early November.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian commented at the time, “Obviously, we’ve had some roster movement today with Johntay Cook moving on. We have nothing but respect for he and his family. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Given Cook’s talent and eligibility, he is typically a valuable prospect in the transfer portal. The 6’0”, 185-pound receiver was ranked as the No. 29 overall player and No. 3 wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. However, his outspoken behavior and social media controversies have limited his options.

As classes begin at universities across the country, Cook’s path forward looks even more complicated. He may need to wait until the summer to enroll at his next school, with fewer opportunities available to him as time passes.
