Massive blow: UW confirm unexpected blow as another top talented player leaves program

The former consensus five-star prospect is said to have spent just two days on campus in Seattle before leaving.

The troubled journey of the talented player took another disappointing turn  as reports from Seattle revealed that the DeSoto native left the Washington Huskies program just two days after arriving on campus.

He had committed to Washington late last month and signed with the Huskies on January 7, but after just two days on campus, he departed. This marks his second departure from a program in the last two months, following a “mutual” decision to leave Texas in early November.

Johntay Cook and Huskies Part Ways After Just 17 Days

Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian commented on Cook’s exit at the time, saying, “Obviously, we’ve had some roster movement today with Johntay Cook moving on. We have nothing but respect for he and his family. Wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Players like Cook, who possess his level of talent and have remaining eligibility, are usually highly sought after in the transfer portal. The 6’0″, 185-pound wide receiver was ranked as the No. 29 player overall and No. 3 wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting class by the 247Sports Composite rankings. However, Cook’s outspoken and sometimes toxic behavior on social media has limited his options.

Now, with classes beginning around the country, Cook faces an even more challenging situation. He will likely have to wait until the summer to enroll at a new school, as the window for his recruitment continues to narrow.
