BREAKING: Another highly rated gifted player transfer to WVU

On January 6, former Arkansas offensive lineman  initially committed to UCLA through the NCAA Transfer Portal. However, he has since reversed his decision, choosing to commit to West Virginia instead.

He played four seasons at Arkansas, making 33 appearances and starting in six games. Despite his contributions during his time in Fayetteville, he participated in just one game this season, the Razorbacks’ season-opening victory over Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

Before transferring to Arkansas, He spent one season at Charlotte, where he appeared in six games and made two starts. He played exclusively at right tackle for the 49ers and did not allow a sack on 55 pass-blocking attempts.

Ty’kieast Crawford played high school football at Carthage High School in Texas, where he was a four-star recruit. In the 2020 recruiting cycle, he was ranked as the No. 244 overall player and No. 26 offensive tackle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which is based on a weighted average of all four major recruiting services.

Crawford is currently ranked as the No. 68 offensive tackle in the 2025 Player Transfer Portal Rankings by On3. West Virginia has already bolstered its roster with over 15 transfers this offseason, including key additions like cornerback Jordan Scruggs and running back Tye Edwards.

West Virginia will not only be welcoming new players next season but also new coaches. In December, the program announced Rich Rodriguez as its next head coach. Rodriguez previously served as the Mountaineers’ head coach from 2001 to 2007 and will be replacing Neal Brown, who held the position for the last six years.

The 61-year-old Rodriguez compiled a record of 60 wins and 26 losses during his time at West Virginia. He led the team to three consecutive 10-win seasons and secured more than half (34) of those victories in conference play.

Rodriguez is excited to lead the Mountaineers once again.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be the head football coach at West Virginia University,” Rodriguez said. “My family and I are filled with gratitude to lead the Mountaineer football program again and look forward to working with the many supporters, fans, and friends to build the best football program in America! Take Me Home!”

West Virginia ended the 2024 season with a 6-7 record, losing 42-37 to Memphis in the Frisco Bowl. The Mountaineers will aim to improve next season under Rodriguez, with talented players like Ty’kieast Crawford playing a key role in their efforts.
