The five-day period for Washington football players to enter the transfer portal has ended, but one underclassman made a late addition to the list on Tuesday night.
Peyton Waters, a freshman safety who played in all 13 games for the Huskies this season under coach Jedd Fisch, has reportedly added his name to the list of players leaving the program after the 2024 season, according to 247Sports.
Standing at 6-foot-1 and 182 pounds, Waters joined UW in the 2023 recruiting class under former coach Kalen DeBoer and then-defensive coordinator Chuck Morrell. He signed out of Birmingham High School in Los Angeles, Calif., and decided to stay and play under now-former Husky defensive coordinator Steve Belichick.
While Waters appeared in every game this season, he only saw defensive action in three contests: against Northwestern in Week 4 and in the final two regular-season road games at Penn State and Oregon.
The hiring of former Purdue coach Ryan Walters, known for his work with defensive backs and safeties, along with the addition of transfer safeties Alex McLaughlin and CJ Christian, may have led Waters to consider entering the portal again.
Although Waters initially entered the portal in January 2024 following DeBoer’s departure for Alabama and Fisch’s arrival from Arizona, he withdrew his name 10 days later and chose to stay with the new coaching staff.
Waters has not publicly commented on the transfer portal decision on his social media, which may suggest the possibility of him returning to the school for the 2025 season.
