MAJOR UPDATE: Oregon Outsmarts Missouri and Georgia in Bold Move to Land Gatorade National Player of the Year Finalist, Confirmed by Top Prospect

The Oregon Ducks are heavily involved in the recruitment of one of the top junior prospects in the country, Jackson Cantwell. As the No. 1 offensive lineman in the class of 2026, according to 247Sports Composite rankings, Cantwell, a standout offensive tackle from Nixa High School, was also a finalist for the Gatorade National Player of the Year award.

In an interview with Steve Wiltfong of On3, Cantwell shared insights on his recruitment process and highlighted Oregon as one of his leading options. He recalled his visit to Oregon earlier in 2024, expressing strong interest in returning.

“The school I’m most eager to get back to is Oregon,” Cantwell said. “I think they’re really promising. They’re National Championship favorites right now, but I don’t want to jinx Coach Lanning on that.”

One major factor in Cantwell’s interest in Oregon is offensive line coach A’lique Terry, whom he praised for his coaching abilities.

“A’lique Terry has done a fantastic job developing the offensive line,” Cantwell added. “Dan Lanning, being a Kansas City native, is one of the most likable guys in college football. I’ve really enjoyed building a relationship with him, and he knows a lot of people from our area in Southwest Missouri.”

Aside from Oregon, Missouri and Georgia are also strong contenders for Cantwell’s commitment.

According to 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks, Cantwell has the potential to become one of the top players in his class and a highly regarded NFL prospect if his development continues on its current path. Brooks noted Cantwell’s impressive physical traits and potential as a run blocker and pass protector, projecting him as a future high-major starter and possible NFL standout.

While Cantwell still has time to make his decision, On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine currently gives Missouri a 22.3% chance of landing him. Cantwell has visited Mizzou five times, and his father, a former record-breaking shot-putter, is an alum of the university.
