On Notre Dame’s third offensive drive of the second half, quarterback ran for a six-yard gain. However, Love found himself trapped in the middle of the pile and had to limp off the field. As Love attempted to block for Leonard, he was surrounded by multiple defenders. Backup Jadairan Price took over in his place as Love went to the injury tent.
After being assessed, Love was seen wearing a brace on his right knee and riding a stationary bike on the sideline.
Love had six carries for 19 yards and one reception for two yards before leaving the game. He had previously injured his knee during Notre Dame’s final regular-season game against USC and reportedly played through the pain against Indiana.
According to an ESPN sideline report by Molly McGrath, Love “tried cutting side to side. He was in visible discomfort. So they put a hard brace on that right knee. You can tell he’s still bothered by the injury, but he’s doing everything he can to return. I’m told he will try to go, and he told us he does not need to be 100 percent to be effective.”
With Notre Dame ahead 23-10 and less than eight minutes remaining in the game, it seems unlikely Love will return unless Georgia manages to close the gap.
