The Blue Jays have been exploring the idea of adding an infielder with offensive potential this off-season, such as Alex Bregman. However, it seems that Bregman is not interested in joining Toronto, which could lead them to trade for Cardinals all-star infielder instead.
Reports suggest that the Blue Jays and the St. Louis Cardinals are eyeing a major trade for Arenado, whom the Cardinals are looking to move. Despite a challenging off-season for Toronto, where they missed out on key free agents, they may now turn to the trade market.
Although the Blue Jays made one trade already this winter, a more substantial deal involving Arenado could be on the horizon. As their pursuit of top free agents falters, Toronto may look to shift focus to acquiring the third baseman from St. Louis.
However, there is a complication: Arenado has a no-trade clause, and Toronto is not on his approved list of teams. He has agreed to consider trades to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, and Boston Red Sox.
While Arenado may not be the superstar that Blue Jays fans were hoping for, if the Cardinals agree to cover part of his salary, he could be a valuable addition as both a reliable hitter and defender.
