JUST IN: Texas A&M Aggies have landed a Major commitment from an Iowa State veteran defensive lineman

The Texas A&M Aggies are bolstering their defensive line through the transfer portal after the 2024 season.

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, Texas A&M has secured a commitment from Tyler Onyedim, a defensive lineman transferring from Iowa State. Onyedim, a native of Richmond, TX, will return to his home state for his final year of eligibility.

This season, Onyedim recorded 33 total tackles (15 solo), one fumble recovery, and one pass breakup. Over the course of his four years at Iowa State, he accumulated 90 total tackles (37 solo), three sacks, one pass breakup, and one interception.

Onyedim played a part in a strong season for the Cyclones, which culminated in a loss to Arizona State in the Big 12 Championship, followed by a 42-41 victory over the Miami Hurricanes in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. He now looks to bring his veteran leadership to an A&M team that came just one game shy of playing in the SEC Championship.

However, the Aggies have lost several key defensive linemen following the season, with Shemar Turner, Nic Scourton, and Shemar Stewart declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. Onyedim’s experience will be vital as he is expected to make an immediate impact.

In addition to Onyedim, Texas A&M has also added transfers from other positions, including tight ends Nate Boerkircher (Nebraska) and Micah Riley (Auburn), wide receivers Micah Hudson (Texas Tech), KC Concepcion (N.C. State), and Mario Craver (Mississippi State), quarterback Jacob Zeno (UAB), and edge rushers T.J. Searcy (Florida), Dayon Hayes (Colorado), and Sam M’Pemba (Georgia).

As the Aggies prepare for their second season under head coach Mike Elko, they will continue to seek additional talent for the roster.
