The Padres have reached an agreement with infielder, as confirmed by his agent, Joe Rosen of Icon Sports Management. Although the terms weren’t specified, it’s likely that Brosseau signed a minor league contract.
He owns a career slash line of .242/.313/.428 across 647 MLB plate appearances with the Rays and Brewers from 2019 to 2023. He has primarily played second and third base during his five seasons in the majors but has also filled in at first base, shortstop, and both corner outfield positions, making him a valuable versatile bench option. Brosseau posted solid offensive numbers in his first two seasons and again in 2022, his first year with the Brewers.
However, he struggled in 2023, posting a .654 OPS in 78 plate appearances, which led to the Brewers designating him for assignment in July. After being released, he briefly pursued a contract with the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan but returned to North America in 2024. Brosseau then spent time with the Triple-A affiliates of the Royals and Mets, hitting .263/.356/.417 in 405 plate appearances.

With Padres first baseman Luis Arraez and second baseman Jake Cronenworth both being left-handed hitters, as well as lefty-hitting backups Tyler Wade and Trenton Brooks, Brosseau could provide a right-handed option to complement Wade and offer more infield depth. Both Brosseau and Wade are capable of playing multiple positions around the diamond. Additionally, Brosseau has one remaining minor league option, which gives the Padres flexibility to move him between the majors and Triple-A during the season.
