South Carolina strengthened its secondary for the 2025 season with a notable addition from the MAC, as the Gamecocks revealed the signing of another talented player. The 6-foot-1, 183-pound player from St. Louis transferred to South Carolina and will face a higher level of competition next fall after choosing to bring his skills to the SEC.
According to On3, his final decision came down to South Carolina and Kentucky, with the defensive back ultimately choosing the Gamecocks over the Wildcats.
In 2024, he recorded 38 tackles (22 solo), including 2 tackles-for-loss, 10 pass breakups, and a fumble recovery for Ball State. Pro Football Focus gave him a respectable coverage grade of 71.8 across 456 snaps in 12 games. Most of his snaps came as an outside cornerback, though he also played 48 snaps at nickel, with 35 of those in a single game.
Kentucky, facing departures in its defensive backfield due to the NFL Draft and the transfer portal, could have used Norwood’s services but instead saw him join a rival SEC school. Norwood is expected to play a key role in South Carolina’s secondary in 2025 after quickly earning a spot in Ball State’s rotation.
