The Boston Red Sox continued strengthening their pitching staff by acquiring left-handed reliever from the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday in exchange for catcher and infielder Mickey Gasper.
Jovani Morán, 27, pitched in 79 games for the Twins between 2021 and 2023, recording a 4.15 ERA with 112 strikeouts and 52 walks while limiting opponents to a .208 batting average. He missed the entire 2024 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. Originally drafted in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB Draft, Morán had a strong showing in previous years.
The Twins receive 29-year-old Gasper, who made his MLB debut last season and played in 13 games for the Red Sox. A switch-hitter, Gasper was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 27th round of the 2018 draft and was selected by Boston in the minor league portion of the 2023 Rule 5 Draft.
Both teams currently have 39 players on their 40-man rosters.
