A native of Charlotte, N.C., accumulated 63 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss over three seasons with the Pirates. He also deflected 11 passes, intercepted one, and forced and recovered a fumble.
This season,He played a leading role in ECU’s defense, logging 830 snaps, according to PFF. His performance was strong across the board, earning an overall grade of 74.0, with 74.1 in run defense, 80.4 in tackling, and 73.2 in coverage. These grades ranked him 13th, 12th, 6th, and 13th at his position in the AAC, respectively.
To compare, his grades were solid when stacked against Virginia Tech cornerbacks Dorian Strong and Mansoor Delane. Brown-Murray’s style combines Strong’s coverage ability with Delane’s strengths in run defense and tackling. With 1,246 career snaps, he brings the most experience to Tech’s cornerback group, which is especially important after Strong and Delane’s departures. The Hokies’ Dante Lovett is the next most experienced, with 244 career snaps.
Brown-Murray stepped up as ECU’s No. 1 cornerback in Week 4 against Liberty after Shavon Revel, a projected first-round NFL pick, suffered an ACL injury. In that game, he recorded his first interception, returning it 34 yards, and forced his first fumble. The following week, he recovered his first fumble against UTSA.
A former three-star recruit from Hough High School in Cornelius, N.C., Brown-Murray was ranked as a top-40 prospect in the state in the 2022 class. He also received offers from Power Five schools such as Arkansas, Louisville, and Kansas, as well as strong interest from Group of Five programs like Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, and Liberty. In his senior season, he showcased his versatility by scoring five all-purpose touchdowns, including one interception return, two punt returns, and two kickoff returns.
With Brown-Murray’s commitment, Virginia Tech now has eight scholarship cornerbacks for the 2025 season. He will join Lovett and a young group of players, including Thomas Williams (r-So.), Krystian Williams (r-So.), and Joshua Clarke (r-Fr.), all of whom are expected to play in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl against Minnesota on January 3. Additionally, the Hokies will add three incoming freshmen at the position: Knahlij Harrell, Jordan Crim, and Jahmari DeLoatch.
Brown-Murray is the fifth transfer portal addition for Virginia Tech this offseason, joining Clemson safety Sherrod Covil Jr., Bowling Green running back Terion Stewart, Central Missouri running back Marcellous Hawkins, and Hampton defensive tackle Jahzari Priester.
