HUGE BLOW: Bills missing three staring defensive backs, All-Pro linebacker

The Buffalo Bills will be missing three starting defensive backs for the second consecutive game.

Last week, 2022 first-round pick Kaiir Elam replaced Douglas, while rookie Cole Bishop and versatile player Cam Lewis started at safety. For the second week running, the Bills promoted veteran Kareem Jackson from the practice squad, and he is expected to play a significant role.

Boundary cornerback Rasul Douglas, along with safeties Taylor Rapp and Damar Hamlin, are all inactive for the game against the New England Patriots on December 22 in Orchard Park. All three practiced limitedly during the week and were listed as questionable.

Wide receiver Curtis Samuel and All-Pro linebacker Matt Milano were also inactive before the game on Sunday. Samuel suffered a rib injury in the Week 15 win over the Detroit Lions, while Milano left that game early with a groin issue. Both players were limited in practice, and Buffalo appears to be taking a cautious approach with Milano, who recently returned from a preseason biceps tear.

Practice squad wide receiver Jalen Virgil was elevated to take Samuel’s spot.

Rookies Tylan Grable, a swing tackle, and defensive lineman DeWayne Carter round out the seven inactives, as they did not dress for the game.

While the Bills have been mostly healthy this season, a report indicated that quarterback Josh Allen played through a broken left hand for several weeks.
