The talented player’s decision to enter the transfer portal comes after Indiana’s loss to Notre Dame in the first round of the College Football Playoff. He was active during that game and was prepared to play if needed.
He joined the program in the 2023 offseason as a transfer from Tennessee. A former in-state recruit from Center Grove High School in Greenwood and the brother of Hoosier basketball star Trayce Jackson-Davis, his arrival generated considerable attention. Throughout the disappointing season, he mostly competed with Brendan Sorsby for the starting quarterback role.
Entering the 2024 season as the backup quarterback after Kurtis Rourke’s arrival, he played limited snaps early on. He started the second half against Nebraska and went on to start the following game against Washington.
The Washington game held extra significance for the Jackson family, as Tayven’s father, Ray Jackson, is a former Washington State player. With College Gameday in attendance, the younger Jackson led the Hoosiers to victory over his father’s rival.
With Indiana actively searching for a new quarterback in the portal, Jackson’s decision to enter likely marks the end of his tenure with the team.
