Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has stated that his team is “turning the corner” this offseason. The transformation began with the signing of Aroldis Chapman to a one-year contract and the acquisition of Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. However, the Red Sox still need a few more key additions to become true contenders for the AL East title. The most pressing need is starting pitching, making it crucial for the team to pursue Corbin Burnes aggressively.
SP: Corbin Burnes
Despite acquiring Crochet, the Red Sox rotation still requires improvement. Signing Burnes would provide them with two legitimate aces, creating a 1A-1B dynamic at the top of the rotation. While Burnes comes with a significant cost, it’s a move the Red Sox must make. He is undeniably the best starting pitcher available on the market right now.
OF: Teoscar Hernández
The Red Sox currently face some congestion in the outfield, but Teoscar Hernandez is the power-hitting right-handed bat they urgently need. He has delivered four consecutive seasons with over 25 home runs and 75 RBIs (with three of those seasons exceeding 90 RBIs). Even if the Red Sox choose not to use him in the outfield, he would be an ideal DH option to replace Masataka Yoshida.
