Just In, Dodgers Pull Off Blockbuster Trade to Acquire Cy Young Pitcher in Groundbreaking Move

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been active this offseason with multiple moves, but general manager Brandon Gomes has made it clear they aren’t finished yet.

Starting pitching has been a weak point for the Dodgers in recent years. Despite entering seasons with a strong rotation, injuries have plagued their starting staff, especially during the postseason.

In fact, in 2024, the Dodgers managed to win the World Series with only three starters.

As the Dodgers continue to address their pitching needs, MLB Network host Greg Amsinger predicts they will turn to Miami for a potential trade involving former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara.

“I see Sandy Alcantara getting traded to the Dodgers,” Amsinger confidently predicted, while his co-hosts laughed. “Peter Bendix is moving all these guys. If you’ve played in a big league game, you’re gone!”

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, the Dodgers are expected to field a six-man rotation. Clayton Kershaw has yet to re-sign, and retirement could be a possibility after next season. Dustin May, returning from missing all of 2024, is entering his final year of arbitration before becoming a free agent.

Acquiring Alcantara would certainly boost the Dodgers’ rotation, making it even more formidable heading into 2025.

However, according to Craig Mish of Sportsgrid, the Miami Marlins have informed Alcantara that he won’t be traded this offseason.

Alcantara, who underwent Tommy John surgery in October 2023, made his first live batting practice appearance at Dodger Stadium in mid-September and looked sharp, suggesting a return to form.

The 29-year-old’s last major league appearance was on September 3, 2023, before he left a game against Washington with discomfort. After a rehab stint was cut short due to recurring pain, Alcantara continues to recover from his elbow surgery.

In 2022, he posted a 14-9 record with a career-low 2.28 ERA and led the league with six complete games, earning his first Cy Young Award.

While the Marlins have no immediate plans to trade him, the Dodgers, armed with a strong farm system, might still be able to entice them into a deal.
