The Atlanta Braves have reached a one-year deal worth $860,000 with top talented player if he’s in the major leagues and $180,000 if he’s in the minors. This move provides Atlanta with an additional outfield option while Ronald Acuña Jr. is recovering from knee surgery.
The gifted player became a free agent on November 22 after Pittsburgh did not offer him a contract for the 2025 season. The Braves announced the agreement on Sunday.
The 28-year-old outfielder made his MLB debut with Miami on July 31, 2021, and was traded to the Pirates on July 30 of this year. In 149 games in 2024, he batted .233 with 21 home runs and 68 RBIs, including a .200 average with three home runs and 17 RBIs in 44 games with Pittsburgh.
In four partial seasons in the major leagues, De La Cruz has a .253 batting average, with 58 home runs and 208 RBIs.
Acuña, the 2023 NL MVP, suffered a torn left ACL on May 26 and is not expected to be ready for Opening Day.
