Bears Hit Hard: 3 Key Players Sidelined by Injury in Major Setback

The Bears are facing another week of uncertainty about whether they’ll have players with game experience available to run the football.

On Thursday, the team only held a walk-through but had to release an injury report, listing running back D’Andre Swift and backup running back Roschon Johnson as unable to practice due to injuries. Swift is dealing with a groin issue, while Johnson remains in concussion protocol after missing the last two games.

Running back Travis Homer was also on the injury report, but he appears to have recovered from a head injury, as he was a full participant in practice.

Swift played through injury last week.

Slot cornerback Josh Blackwell, who has been filling in as a punt/kick returner after DeAndre Carter’s season-ending hamstring injury, was also listed as unable to practice due to a shoulder issue. This may lead the Bears to look for a new returner.

Other players unable to practice include defensive tackle Gervon Dexter (knee) and guard Ryan Bates (concussion).

For the first time since suffering an ankle injury on Nov. 17, safety Elijah Hicks participated in practice, although only on a limited basis. Jonathan Owens has been starting in his place.

Coach Thomas Brown was uncertain about the status of starting safety Jaquan Brisker, who is eligible to return from injured reserve but was not listed on the injury report. Brisker has been out with a concussion since Oct. 6.
