Brewers To Pull Off Blockbuster Deal For Marlins 27-Year-Old Starter

With the Winter Meetings underway, nearly every potential move gets discussed, though most of these conversations don’t lead to actual transactions. It’s an exciting period because the possibilities are endless, and anything could happen.

Milwaukee is a team to keep an eye on. The Brewers secured 93 wins in 2024 and are positioned for sustained success, thanks to their young core. However, they are unlikely to make significant investments, at least for now.

While the Brewers could benefit from additional pitching, they aren’t expected to go all-in on the top free agents. This makes a trade a more likely option. FanSided’s Tyler Koerth suggested that the team should target Miami Marlins’ 27-year-old starter as a potential acquisition.

Jesús Luzardo injury update: Top trade candidate lands on 60-day IL, won't return ahead of deadline - CBSSports.com

“The Miami Marlins have headed to a clear rebuild and veteran Jesús Luzardo could be the next starting pitcher to get dealt,” Koerth said. “Luzardo has excellent velocity as a southpaw, averaging 95 MPH, while also thriving on getting strikeouts and generating ground balls. Injuries hampered his abilities last year, but if the Brewers can get a similar version of 2023 Luzardo when he tossed 178 innings and had a 3.58 ERA he would be well worth the $8.6 million he is projected to earn in 2025.”

There was a period when Luzardo was one of the most sought-after names on the trade market. However, injuries derailed his 2024 season, and as a result, he hasn’t been talked about as much as other pitchers, like Garrett Crochet. Despite this, Luzardo would be an excellent addition for the Brewers, complementing the young core the team is developing.
