The Buffalo Bills officially activated rookie defensive tackle from Injured Reserve on Saturday, indicating he’s fully recovered after undergoing wrist surgery mid-season. To make room for him, the team released linebacker Nicholas Morrow from the 53-man roster.
Carter had been on IR since late October due to a wrist injury sustained in the Week 7 win over the Tennessee Titans. In the meantime, Buffalo signed veterans Jordan Phillips and Quinton Jefferson to provide depth at defensive tackle, both of whom are familiar with the team.
While DaQuan Jones and Ed Oliver are the clear starters, the Bills utilize a deep rotation on the defensive line. Austin Johnson and Carter were the primary backups before Carter’s injury.
Carter, who will turn 24 on December 10, had been emerging as a key contributor before his injury. The No. 95 overall pick played over 46 percent of the defensive snaps in each game from Weeks 4 through 7, recording 4.0 tackles-for-loss and one pass deflection.
Since the team opened his 21-day window, Carter has fully participated in practice for the past two weeks and is expected to make his eighth career appearance as the Bills aim to extend their seven-game winning streak in Los Angeles.
“He could. He’s had a good week of practice. Last week, had a good week as well. We’ll see how it goes again today,” said Bills’ head coach Sean McDermott on Friday.
Morrow, who was signed by the Bills as a free agent from the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason, appeared in 11 games this season, mostly on special teams. He logged 182 special teams snaps and 44 defensive reps.
