The Michigan football team continued their strong recruiting efforts by securing a commitment from four-star defensive end, who had previously been committed to Auburn. He had initially pledged to Michigan before switching to Auburn in August, but it seems his decision is now final as he will be joining Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines.
A four-star recruit according to 247 Sports, is ranked as the #55 player in the 2025 class, the #8 defensive lineman, and the #3 player in Illinois. He currently attends Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois, and is the 21st commitment in Michigan’s 2025 football recruiting class.
According to 247 Sports’ Allen Trieu, Marshall has a background in basketball and offense, sometimes playing wide where he’s shown effectiveness. This athleticism translates to his defensive play, where he is comfortable in space, capable of chasing down plays, changing directions, and showing a strong motor. Marshall has experience playing both inside and outside along the defensive line.
Although it’s still early in his high school career, Marshall is expected to be a significant contributor at Michigan and potentially at the next level. The scouting report notes that he carries his weight well and could continue to add strength, possibly transitioning into a versatile player in college. His long-term projection is as a five-technique defensive lineman, though his physical development will influence this. His combination of athleticism and versatility makes him a high-end prospect, though he still needs to refine his technique, particularly with his hand usage and strength. Marshall looks poised to be a starter at a high-major program and has the potential for a successful career beyond college.
Marshall’s high school head coach, Matthew Battaglia, has spoken highly of the star defensive lineman, even going as far as to say that Marshall will likely be the best player he ever coaches. “Obviously, the talent is off the charts,” said Battaglia. “Unfortunately for me, I will probably never coach a player this talented again. He’s an extreme competitor. A lot of that comes from a great athletic background with his family. His mom, Khara Smith, is a Hall of Fame basketball player, and his grandfather, Ken Norman, is also a Hall of Famer who played at Illinois and in the NBA. He has a tremendous competitive background, and the lessons his parents learned from competing at the highest levels are deeply ingrained in him.”
This commitment is another major win for Sherrone Moore and the Michigan football program, which continues to recruit at an elite level. The Wolverines are clearly not done yet.
