Dodgers Confirm To Land Blockbuster Deal For Cardinals Two All-Stars In Exchange Of Dodgers Daulton Rushing And Others

The St. Louis Cardinals are considering the possibility of rebuilding during the offseason. As part of this process, they  look to trade two of their top players. Both players would command a large return of prospects, but determining their value during the offseason can be challenging. Curt Bishop from FanSided has proposed a trade idea that would send both of these All-Star players away from the Cardinals. This trade, however, could be a nightmare for the rest of the league, as Bishop suggests sending Helsley and Arenado to

Los Angeles Dodgers receive: RHP Ryan Helsley, 3B Nolan Arenado Ryan Helsley

St. Louis Cardinals receive: C/OF Daulton Rushing (No. 1 prospect), RHP Nick Frasso (No. 12 prospect), INF/OF Austin Gauthier (No. 24 prospect)

Why this potential Nolan Arenado move makes little sense | Yardbarker

“For this trade to work, the Cardinals would have to eat a little bit of Arenado’s contract. He’s got three years and $74 million left on the deal, and he’s simply not that kind of player anymore,” Bishop wrote. “But if he and Helsley are packaged together, St. Louis could still get a haul of prospects in exchange that are close to Major League-ready.”

The first thing to recognize is that the Cardinals would never agree to this trade. Bishop also proposes that the Cardinals absorb part of Arenado’s contract, which is a possibility, but they wouldn’t do it for this kind of return. Rushing is a strong prospect, but he’s the only top-10 prospect involved in the deal. While Frasso and Gauthier are skilled players, they wouldn’t warrant such a high-level return. For the Cardinals to trade both All-Stars to one team, they would likely require two or three more prospects, with several of them being top-10 talents. There’s even a chance that St. Louis would refuse to trade both players to the Dodgers, as it could make them too strong of a team. At the end of the day, baseball is a business.
