Virginia Tech’s defensive tackle became the first player to declare his intention to enter the transfer portal. The redshirt sophomore from Chester shared his decision on social media Monday, just two days after the Hokies’ 37-17 victory over UVa in their regular-season finale. The transfer portal officially opens on December 9.
He participated in only one game this season, against Stanford, where he recorded one tackle. After redshirting in 2022, he did not see any game action in 2023.
With Madison’s departure, the Hokies will lose four defensive tackles from this year’s roster, as Aeneas Peebles, Josh Fuga, and Wilfried Pene have all exhausted their eligibility. As a result, the defensive tackle position is likely to become a priority for Virginia Tech in the transfer portal this offseason.
Returning players include Kelvin Gilliam and Khurtiss Perry, while Kemari Copeland will be back from injury. Freshmen Emmett Laws and Andrew Hanchuk, who redshirted, will also be in the mix. Additionally, high school recruit Christian Evans is expected to sign this week.
