The Texas Longhorns are excelling in every aspect of their program.
On Saturday, they secured a significant victory over the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station. Then, on Tuesday—just one day before Early Signing Day—they achieved a major success in recruiting.
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the Texas Longhorns have successfully flipped five-star cornerback from LSU. A Hightower (Missouri City, TX) product, initially committed to Texas on July 6 but later switched his commitment to LSU.
Despite this, the Longhorns remained persistent, continuing to recruit the highly-rated prospect and eventually outlasting Brian Kelly and the Tigers.
He made an official visit to Austin on June 21, where he left with glowing reviews of the Longhorns. This visit came just after he toured LSU, giving Texas the final opportunity to impress him before securing his commitment. He also visited Baylor on April 26.
Phillips also garnered offers from top programs such as Michigan, Oregon, Ole Miss, Penn State, Utah, and others.
A rapidly rising prospect, Phillips was initially ranked as a four-star recruit, the No. 105 player nationally, the No. 11 cornerback, and the No. 20 player in Texas when he first committed to the Longhorns over the summer.
Now, he has been elevated to a five-star recruit, ranking as the No. 23 player in the country, the No. 5 cornerback, and the No. 10 player in Texas according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
Phillips is now the 23rd commitment and the fifth five-star recruit in the Longhorns’ 2025 class, which currently ranks third in the nation, trailing only Alabama and Ohio State.
