The St. Louis Cardinals are beginning a rebuilding phase this offseason. They brought in Chaim Bloom to overhaul their minor league scouting system, marking a shift in the team’s strategy. A potential move that could further signal this change is trading Cardinals gifted player. He has been a key figure in trade discussions this offseason, with interest growing from teams like the Yankees and Dodgers. Randy Miller from NJ.com shared the latest updates on WFAN Sports Radio in New York.
“One player that could be a possibility for the Yankees is Arenado from St. Louis,” Miller said, according to MLB.com. “I believe the Cardinals are looking to trade him, and St. Louis would likely need to cover some of his salary. The Yankees could then work out a deal involving some of their prospects.”
Miller continued, “I keep hearing it’s going to be either the Yankees or the Dodgers — I think he’s a West Coast guy that would prefer to go to the Dodgers and I think the Dodgers want him.”
The Yankees could benefit from adding the reliable infielder, especially after struggling defensively throughout 2024. While Jazz Chisholm performed well at third base, his primary position is second base, making Arenado an attractive option for the Bronx.
On the other hand, the Dodgers already have a crowded infield. With Freddie Freeman at first, Shohei Ohtani as the designated hitter, and Max Muncy playing third and improving at the position, a trade for Arenado would likely require someone to shift to a different role.
