The Chicago White Sox are open to trading their star outfielder if they receive a suitable return. Chicago is reportedly seeking young position players in exchange, though securing the desired package may prove challenging. Robert, who hit 38 home runs and stole 20 bases in 2023, had a disappointing 2024 season. Many teams have shown interest in him, with the New York Yankees being a potential landing spot, especially if they miss out on Juan Soto. MLB Network’s Anthony Castrovince proposed a straightforward trade, suggesting the Yankees send top prospect Jasson Dominguez to the White Sox in exchange for the gifted player
“The Sox give up a star to bring in ‘The Martian,’ who technically meets my “big league requirement in these deals by having seen time in the Majors in both 2023 and ’24,” Castrovince wrote. “The Domínguez Hype Machine took a bit of a hit after he sustained an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery in 2023, then had an unremarkable (and very brief) 18-game sample with the Yanks last season. That New York opted to play the struggling (Alex) Verdugo over him in October perhaps says a lot.”
Castrovince’s proposed trade might not be approved by either side. The White Sox are seeking multiple players in exchange for their star players, as they need a complete organizational overhaul. Trading Robert in a one-for-one deal wouldn’t help them achieve that goal. Chicago is looking for two, three, or even four prospects in return. Meanwhile, the Yankees have considered top prospect Jasson Dominguez untouchable up until now. They even avoided dealing him when acquiring Juan Soto from San Diego. Dominguez is much cheaper and under control for a longer period than Robert, so trading him for Robert doesn’t make sense for New York. This trade proposal seems highly unlikely to happen. While the Yankees might pursue Robert, it won’t come at the cost of their most prized prospect.
