Massive!!! Red Sox Confirm To Trade For Star $260 Million Cardinals Third Baseman

The Boston Red Sox are reportedly interested in trading for star third baseman  of the St. Louis Cardinals.

As per Sean McAdam of MassLive, the Red Sox are considering shifting Rafael Devers to first base. This move would open up the opportunity for Boston to pursue Arenado in a trade with the Cardinals.

“Don’t rule out some Red Sox interest in Nolan Arenado,” McAdam wrote. “There’s been at some internal talk about moving Rafael Devers off third base at some point. And, Arenado is viewed as a potential Plan B. The Cardinals, who are watching their payroll carefully, wouldn’t be opposed to moving him if a team is willing to take on most of the remaining money. One potential obstacle: Arenado has a full no-trade clause.”

Nolan Arenado opts in with Cardinals through 2027

Nolan Arenado’s name has been mentioned in trade discussions, and McAdam believes the Red Sox are showing interest. The star third baseman still has three years remaining on his eight-year, $260 million contract. Arenado is an eight-time All-Star, 10-time Gold Glove winner, and five-time Silver Slugger award recipient.

In the previous season with the Cardinals, Arenado posted a .272 batting average, with 16 home runs and 71 RBIs.

How Would Arenado Fit in With The Red Sox?

If the Boston Red Sox acquire Arenado, he would take over as the team’s starting third baseman, moving Rafael Devers to first base.

Devers has been considered a below-average third baseman, recording 12 errors last season—his fewest in his career—but still has had seasons with 24, 22 (twice), and 19 errors. Bringing in Arenado, a 10-time Gold Glove winner, would significantly improve Boston’s defense, while moving Devers to first base would also address a gap at that position.

Currently, Triston Casas is Boston’s first baseman, so shifting Devers to first would not only boost the team’s defensive capabilities but also strengthen the lineup overall. However, Devers’ agent, Nelson Montes de Oca, recently told Alex Speier of The Boston Globe that Devers considers himself a third baseman.
